The
Zen Kitty's Guide to New Year's Resolutions:
Happy New Year everybody! Well here we are at the start of a New Year, and if you're anything like me, you'll have been making plenty of New Year's Resolutions. Making them is the easy part. And sadly breaking them is even easier! So in order to help out I've prepared a little list of things that might just help you stick to them. Top New Year's Resolution Tips 1. Be realistic. Don't set yourself goals that you can't achieve, for example, running the marathon when you've never run at all. If your goal is to run a marathon then make sure you have the time to train for it. There’s nothing more de-motivating than failing. 2. Set a measurable goal. It’s easier to stay focussed if you have a target in mind. For example to be able to run for five minutes, you’ll be able to see yourself getting closer to this each time you train. 3. Get a mantra! I know this idea sounds a bit kooky, but I’ve actually found it works. I tell myself things like; “I never regret going” (jogging, to the gym, etc), or “Chocolate will still be there tomorrow so I don’t HAVE to eat it today”, or that old chestnut, “A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips”! 4. Have a reward system. Just don’t make it chocolate if your resolution is to loose weight! I recommend treating yourself to some lovely natural toiletries and using them each time you achieve a goal or feel you’ve done well. Personally I’m lavishing myself with Burt’s Bees Honey and Milk Body Lotion when I’ve been for a particularly long run. 5. Take one day at a time. OK, so it’s a cliché, but basically, don’t give up because you’ve had one bad day, just try to do better tomorrow. 6. Focus on what you can have, not what you can’t. If you’re dieting, think about all the new foods you can try rather than being miserable about not being able to have chocolate. Why not try different exotic fruits or dried fruits? Try out new recipes and try activities with friends that don’t revolve around eating and drinking. You could host a poker night or go bowling or hill walking or belly dancing, whatever takes your fancy! Whatever you do, try to enjoy it. Goog luck! ![]() |
